The historic Vrbenský barracks in Hradec Králové are coming back to life

The long-dilapidated Vrbenský Barracks in the center of Hradec Králové have finally been given a facelift. In August 2025, the complete renovation of the extensive facade was successfully completed, representing a major milestone in the overall reconstruction of this historic building. The investor behind this ambitious project, which aims to breathe new life into the building, is the Hradec Králové Region.

Modern technology and energy savings in the renovation of the facade

The renovation of the facade, covering an impressive area of approximately 10,000 square meters, was carried out under the strict supervision of the monument preservation authorities. Special reflective insulation coatings, ALPHA ISOLATION and ALPHA FACADE, were applied to the building.

These modern materials not only enhance the building's appearance and protect it, but above all bring significant energy savings. The reflective layer works by keeping the heat inside during the winter months, while preventing unwanted overheating of the interior in the summer. This solution thus meets the demanding requirements of modern energy standards, reduces heating costs, extends the overall life of the facade, and at the same time fully respects the historical value of the building.

Transformation into a modern museum campus and natural science exhibition

The complete renovation of the barracks, which began in June 2024, will require an investment of CZK 341 million. However, the renovation of the facade is only the first visible step. After the construction work is fully completed in 2025, the building will begin to change from the inside.

Between 2026 and 2027, the interior furnishings will be installed, creating the largest natural science exhibition in the Czech Republic. Hradec Králové can look forward to a brand new, modern museum campus full of interactive exhibitions, which will undoubtedly become the new cultural and educational pride of the entire region.

The revitalization of the Vrbenské barracks is a prime example of how the protection of valuable historical heritage can be successfully combined with state-of-the-art technology. The result is a unique space that will enrich public life and serve many generations of visitors to come.
