Westfield shopping centers in the Czech Republic are taking another significant step towards sustainability and energy savings. They have decided to apply special coatings to their air handling units, confirming their position as leaders in the application of green technologies in the retail sector.
In response to rising summer temperatures and high energy prices, Westfield management has decided to use ALPHA FLEXIBLE coating. This highly flexible coating is applied to air conditioning units, which are usually located on the roofs of buildings and are therefore exposed to direct sunlight.
The technology works on the principle of thermal radiation reflection. Thanks to its extremely high reflectivity index (SRI greater than 107.3), the coating effectively prevents heat absorption by the surface of the units. This prevents overheating of key parts of the cooling system and improves overall airflow. As a result, air conditioning systems do not have to operate at full capacity to maintain a comfortable temperature in shopping malls. The result is not only more efficient cooling, but above all direct and significant savings in electricity consumption.
The deployment of this innovative technology is fully in line with the long-term sustainability strategy of the Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield group, which places maximum emphasis on the environmentally friendly operation of its buildings. Centers such as Westfield Černý most are already successfully using renewable energy sources, energy-efficient LED lighting, and advanced water management systems. The application of ALPHA FLEXIBLE coatings is a logical extension of these activities and brings further tangible results.
Reducing the energy consumption of cooling systems not only generates significant financial savings in operating costs, but above all significantly reduces the carbon footprint of the entire complex.
